Stanley Kubrick (Nueva York, Estados Unidos, 26 de julio de 1928 – Harpenden, Hertfordshire, Reino Unido, 7 de marzo de 1999) fotógrafo, director de cine, guionista y productor.
Nació en un barrio del Bronx de Nueva York, en el seno de una familia de clase media-alta de origen judío. Desde muy joven mostró su interés por la fotografía, que practicaba con una cámara réflex Leica III, regalo de sus padres. Otras aficiones eran la música en general, el jazz en particular (llegó a tocar la batería en la Taft Swing Band) y el ajedrez.
Estos tres pasatiempos serían fundamentales para su futura carrera como director. Su afición a la fotografía le permitió, en primer lugar, trabajar para la revista Look, donde hizo reportajes fotográficos a importantes estrellas del momento, y donde se labró una reputación profesional.
